Common Rue

Scientific name: Ruta Graveolens (Common Name: Common Rue)
Chinese name: 臭草 (别名: 芸香)
Character: Rue is an ornamental plant and herb, the species’s name ‘graveolens’ means strong smell. It is adopted in the garden for ornamental use, especially for its bluish leaves and its tolerance of hot and dry soil conditions.
Edible Parts: The leaves of Rue can be used for seasoning and herbal tea. In Canton cuisine, it is use for mung-bean soup.
Other Use: In ancient times, rue was used to exorcise evil spirits. With its excitement and toxicity, it was also used as an abortion medicine in Europe and India. The dried leaves of rue is a strong insecticide or wound fungicide. Rue seeds can also be insect repellents and antispasmodics.
